Types Of Massage Therapy
There are many types of massage therapy or complementary treatments aside from chair and table massage that therapists perform.
Of course, they must fall under the scope of practice for the massage therapist in his/her state of residence in order to be performed.

Paraffin Wax Treatments

Paraffin wax treatments are my favorite treatments to give my clients. I have some with painful arthritis and the heat from the wax helps relieve the pain ...
Skin care is big business these days from expensive lotions to day spa treatments. Massage therapists can smooth the skin with
a salt glow
and also with
a body polish.
Both treatments will exfoliate the skin and leave it feeling soft and smooth.
My favorite smoothing treatment to perform is a scented
paraffin wax treatment.
(A paraffin treatment can also be done without the scent, if the client prefers.) It leaves the hands and feet feeling soft and smelling fabulous for hours. This treatment is great for treating joint pain as well.
Of course, now that scent has been mentioned, it is a good time to talk about
aromatherapy
and how helpful it can be to the client during a treatment.
For a real treat,
get a hot stone massage,
especially in cold weather. The therapist heats stones and places them in various spots on the body, bringing warmth and comfort to the client.
A cold stone treatment is great for treating your face.
Reflexology
uses the therapist's thumb and fingers on reflex areas in the hands and feet to relieve stress, and improve circulation and nerve impulses.
All organs and parts of the body have corresponding zones on the feet and working on a particular zone will help the corresponding body part to function better.
Reiki,
another of the types of massage therapy or alternative treatment, is a form of energy work treating invisible paths of energy moving through the human body. Its origins are in Asia.
Shiatsu
is the application of pressure along meridian lines and acupoints to assist the body in functioning normally. This treatment has its roots in Japan.
There are many other
forms of Asian massage as well.
Hydrotherapy
is the therapeutic use of hot and cool water to help the body function better.
