Therapeutic Chair Massage
Therapeutic Chair Massage by Ralph R. Stephens is the premiere textbook on seated massage.
This is a well-written book published in 2006.
As soon as it came out, I ordered it since I have a big seated massage practice. This has been such a helpful book. In massage school, I learned a relaxing chair routine. This book provides me with routines designed to treat specific pain areas in the upper body.
If you do any substantial amount of seated massage in your practice, this book should be in your library.
Filled with thirteen quality chapters on the art of performing chair massage for pain, this book tells you everything you need to know from your equipment needs to sanitation, from massage routines to the business side of giving seated massage.
The routines given are complete with full color photos. These photos demonstrate techniques with the use of arrows showing which way your hands should be moving during strokes. The routines are broken up into different chapters according to body parts. The back and neck are grouped together. The shoulder has its own chapter. The forearm, wrist, and hand are combined in a chapter.
It is a wonderful teaching tool and a great companion to Ralph Stephen's videos about seated massage.
