Stomach Pain Relief Through Massage Therapy

Stomach pain relief is something that all of us need when we experience constipation from time to time.

It is miserable. We need relief right away.

One of the best options we have is massage. Massage relieves constipation by increasing peristalsis. Peristalsis is involuntary contractions in the gastrointestinal tract that mix and move the contents through the intestines. Sounds a little gross but it is important to understand how the body works.

The way it is supposed to work is that at any given time, you have 3 separate meals somewhere in the digestive tract (provided that you eat 3 meals a day) and evacuation is supposed to take place about 16 hours after you have eaten. That does not always happen, hence difficulty in evacuating the GI tract.

Causes of this condition are not getting enough fluids and fiber in the diet and a lack of exercise. The best thing the client who suffers frequently is to drink a lot of water and exercise more. Water helps to bring relief from pain quickly. Fiber such as in cereal is also helpful.

Massage can help by stimulating the GI contents forward. The massage therapist needs to massage the abdomen by using petrissage in a clockwise direction, following the path of the large intestine.

Also, fine vibration should be used following the same path.
