Sick Of Corporate America

First, let me say you have a great site with a lot of helpful information. Thank you for taking the time to share all of this with us.
I am a new massage therapist. I worked in the insurance industry for 15 years and realized I was sick of corporate America. So I began doing research to see what I could do to help people and get away from being on a computer all day long, making my company rich for a small amount of pay.
I found a lot of information on massage therapy on the internet. I began to look into it and found a massage therapy school not far from my home. I visited and talked to some massage therapists. They loved what they did for a living. (I hated what I did for a living since I was sick of corporate America and their office politics.)
After thinking it over, I enrolled in classes, quit my job. 10 months later, I got my temporary license and began my new massage therapy career. It was slow going at first. Fortunately, my husband made enough money so I did not need to continue on in corporate America and I did not have to take a job in a spa.
I spoke with some massage therapists who said they had worked in a spa and everything you say about them is true and so much more. They told me horror stories about spas so I will never work in one. (Again, thank you for warning us about such things.)
I now have a thriving practice and am thinking about partnering with another massage therapist to create an even bigger practice together, eventually hiring contract massage therapists. But we will be good to them and not abuse them!
Advice for those of you thinking about becoming massage therapists--I love my job now--taking care of hurting people, instead of hating my job and being sick of corporate America. Jobs in corporate America are not safe but people will always need relaxation and many will have pain so a career in massage is job security. It is a great feeling to help people.
