Reiki
Reiki is a type of energy therapy. It is performed by lightly placing hands on the client for energy healing. This treatment can also be done long distance for someone who needs healing but is not present.
Another person can act as proxy for the person who needs healing.
This practice has been around for less than 100 years. A Japanese man who died in 1926, Mikao Usui was meditating at a sacred site by a mountain in Japan in the early 1920's. He felt some quiet vibrations above him and felt this to be a sense of power and healing within himself to help others.
It is taught in some massage schools across the United States. Practitioners say they do not understand how it works but they experience a healing vibrational warm energy that flows through them into the client.
It is more spiritual than energy healing and does not actually involve massage, just the placing of the hands on the client. The practitioner rests his/her hands on a portion of the client's body that feels tight or different until the tissue loosens up.
A typical session lasts for about 30 minutes and the client usually will fall asleep during the treatment.
