Push Therapy
Push therapy is a very effective muscle therapy that treats and relieves soft tissue pain and long-lasting tension in muscles. It is not a form of massage therapy.
This type of therapy makes muscle tissue release and relax which causes it to grow longer while the muscle is in a state of rest. Like massage therapy, it also increases blood flow.
The body is not in proper alignment if you are having muscle pain. The client is taught proper alignment during sessions.
The acronym PUSH stands for pressure under soft hands. The client is made aware of how muscles contract or tighten and then release. The client is also taught self-treatments to practice in between treatment sessions.
PUSH can help with headaches, TMJ pain, shoulder pain, carpal tunnel syndrome pain, hip pain, leg pain, knee pain, and plantar fasciitis.
Long-standing soft tissue pain causes the muscles to contract. This restricts blood flow. Push therapy puts an end to the muscles contracting, allowing adequate blood flow. Adequate blood flow takes away the pain.
A therapist makes an individualized treatment plan, noting how many sessions it should take to resolve the client's pain. Like massage therapy, there are contraindications that do not allow it such as recent surgery, bone fractures, pregnancies....
You will receive this therapy in comfortable, loose clothing on a massage table. Don't wear jeans as they are too thick in the seams.
You will drink a lot of water for two to three days prior to your appointment and two to three days after. This prepares the body to flush toxins out of your cells once the tissue is released.
Once you lay down on the table, the therapist sees where your body is not properly aligned. The therapist palpates the tissue areas. Then the elbow and/or finger tools are used to give stationary pressure to the area, layer by layer, loosening and releasing the tissue.
A typical treatment session lasts 60 to 90 minutes.
