Not The Massage Therapy Type
Sometimes you will run into the busy client--the client who is not the massage therapy type, so important and so busy that he or she cannot shut off or put down the phone for 45 minutes for a massage that he or she is paying for!
For instance, meet Betty, a local real estate agent who is constantly on her cell phone and/or cordless home phone. A few times during massages, she has been on both at the same time.
Always trying to cut a deal, Betty thinks that the real estate market will collapse if she turns her phones off for just 45 minutes for a decent massage. She can't put her face in the face cradle, but has to hold her neck up on a pillow to talk on the phone.
If someone does not call her during a massage, she calls others to talk about this house or that property.
As a massage therapist, you must be focused during a massage with a busy client like this. The music must be off per the client's instructions and you tend to get caught up in the deals that are going on.
The client is very excited and will not relax. This makes it very difficult for the therapist to concentrate with all of the noise and movement going on. It also defeats the purpose of the massage if it is for relaxation. No relaxation is going on at Betty's house during massage time!
Of course, I have had talks with Betty but she insists on doing business during her relaxation time. She is the client so I will continue to do my best work with her. I just work around the phones and do what I can.
When you get a similar client who is not the massage therapy type, just try to give the best massage you can give.
