Massage Therapy References

I am giving you sources for some of the best massage therapy references in this section.

You will need more than your textbooks from school to have a successful practice. Purchase these items as you can afford them.

Don't forget a good medical dictionary such as Taber's to help you with the names of diagnoses that clients say they have according to their physician. Remember that some of these may not allow massage therapy until they are resolved or treated with medications. These conditions are called contraindications to massage.

I have a Taber's and it is helpful with everything regarding illnesses and the body itself.

Ralph Stephens Videos  starstarstarstarstar
My favorite learning tools are the videos that massage therapist Ralph Stephens puts out. I have his series on chair massage routines, both relaxation ...

There are many good books to help you learn things that were not covered in school. Some you can find at your local bookstore and others can be ordered online.

Everytime they come out during the year, I get three massage therapy magazines that help me keep up with the latest news and trends in my profession. They are each published at different times throughout the year and are always available at Barnes and Noble when they come out.

There are some excellent training videos and DVD's so you can learn new skills. They are made by some awesome therapists and instructors and are well worth the investment.

There are also study aids such as charts, human body models, muscle models, skeletons, flash cards, and other references that will help you both while you are in school and in your practice. Purchase as many as you can early in your career and refer to them often.
