Massage Therapy Liability Insurance
If you plan to be a massage therapist, massage therapy liability insurance is a must. No questions asked. You do not want to touch a client without it.
Spas, health fairs, and corporations where you will go to perform seated massage, will normally not allow you to work on their property without you showing them proof of liability insurance.
This important coverage is inexpensive, yet it can protect you, your assets, and your good name. Don't take any chances. Just so you understand, this insurance does not cover the massage therapist if he/she gets injured, just the client.
What is it? It is the massage therapist's equivalent of physicians' malpractice insurance, only we can get it much cheaper than physicians can.
If you accidentally bruise or injure a client, this insurance pays the bills for the client's medical treatment.
If a client sues you, this coverage pays out any judgment found against you in a court of law, up to the maximum amount of the policy. The policies I have seen have a maximum amount of $1 million and $2 million.
For one year of massage therapy liability insurance coverage and peace of mind, expect to pay between $199 to $400, depending on who you get it through and the specifics of coverage. If you belong to a professional organization of massage therapists, you can get coverage at a discounted rate. There are several massage and bodywork professional organizations that you can belong to. By paying the annual dues, some organizations give you this coverage free and others largely discount it.
Do not be without this coverage! For more information on getting an inexpensive policy, see
