Housecall At A College

My husband attended a Bible college in Colorado Springs for 4 years. Since I am a massage therapist, I asked him to find out if I could take a massage ...
The number one benefit is saving money by not having to pay rent on an office and utility bills each month. So if you are a new massage therapist, with a limited amount of money, this can be a great way to start your practice.
Another good thing about making massage therapy housecalls is you do not have to keep an office clean and in tiptop shape so that is a time saver.
Are there disadvantages? Of course. You must always have a vehicle in top working order, gassed up and ready to roll at all times.
Another disadvantage is the high cost of gasoline, although the price has been dropping a bit lately. Traffic can be a nightmare in some cities during rush hour periods in the morning, lunchtime, and in the afternoon thru early evening.
Also, you have to pack enough supplies to last you for the day or make frequent trips home for clean linens, massage media (lubricants), and clean uniforms.
You need to carry your equipment with you all of the time--table, chair, stool for you, CD player, aromatherapy candles, linens, towels, cream or oil, and the list goes on.
Table and chair covers with over the shoulder straps or wheels are almost a necessity.
Once you get everything in your client's house, you must remove your table (or chair, but for outcalls it is mainly a table) from its cover, unfold it, set it up, and put
the linens
on it.
Then you must work on
the ambiance --
set up the CD player, get out your cream or other lubricant for the client, dim the lights, and light an aromatherapy candle if wanted. Then you must wash your hands to begin the massage.
After the massage is complete, you must take everything back down quickly and move on to your next appointment. As you can see, this does take up a lot of time so you should charge more for outcalls to cover gas and your time and effort.
Sometimes, you will get lucky and have
two clients at the same house or at least in the same neighborhood
and you can book them close together.
Other times, you will have to schedule less appointments in a day because a big chunk of your time will be
spent out in traffic.
Massage therapy housecalls are
mainly done for the convenience of the client.
Some clients are so friendly and good-natured that it is a pleasure to make a massage therapy housecall to work on them.
Other clients are busy and they want a massage but
business comes first.
They will not put the phone down during the massage.
Still,
other clients will not stop talking
to you during the massage so it is difficult for them to relax and it is difficult for you to concentrate.
Sometimes you must perform
seated massage
without a massage chair! You may need to get a little creative.
