Hot Stone Massage

by Kendra
(Sugarland, TX)

I took a two day weekend CEU class on Hot Stone Massage. It was wonderful. I had never had a hot stone massage until that weekend. We learned how to clean, heat, and use the rocks on clients. We learned how to choose rocks in lakes and streams.

We were also told that we could buy the stones in sets through the school or through a massage supply company but that rocks found by us would be more meaningful and spiritual for us. The rocks we find on our own were meant to be found by us for our use. That was a bit too mystical for me but the instructor truly believed this.

The heat from the rocks softens the muscles and makes them more pliable and responsive to massage. Clients love it, especially in cooler months. We were cautioned to be careful about burning the skin and opening ourselves up to lawsuits. That is the scariest part of using heat. Some client's skin is more sensitive than others.

It is so important to watch the thermometer when you heat the rocks.
