Flexor Carpi Radialis
Origin is medial epicondyle of humerus.
Insertion is bases of metacarpals 2-3.
Actions--abducts wrist, flexes wrist.
Flexor Carpi Ulnaris
Origin is medial epicondyle of humerus.
Insertions are hamate, pisiform, and base of metacarpal 5.
Actions--adducts wrist and flexes wrist.
Palmaris Longus
Origin is medial epicondyle of humerus.
Insertions are palmar aponeurosis and transverse carpal ligament.
Actions--cups palm of the hand and flexes wrist.
Flexor Digitorum Superficialis
Origins are coronoid process of ulna, medial epicondyle of humerus, and proximal radial shaft.
Insertion is middle phalanges of fingers 2-5.
Actions--flexes fingers at PIP and MP joints and flexes wrist.
Flexor Digitorum Profundus
Origin is anterior proximal 3/4 of ulnar shaft.
Insertion is distal phalanges of fingers 2-5.
Action--flexes fingers at DIP, PIP, MP joints.
Extensor Carpi Radialis Longus and Brevis
Origins are lateral epicondyle of humerus (brevis) and supracondylar ridge of humerus (longus).
Insertions are base of metacarpal 3(brevis) and base of metacarpal 2(longus).
Actions abducts wrist and extends wrist.
Extensor Carpi Ulnaris
Origin is lateral epicondyle of humerus.
Insertion is base of metacarpal 5.
Actions--adducts wrist and extends wrist.
Extensor Digitorum
Origin is lateral epicondyle of humerus.
Insertion is middle phalanges of 4 fingers.
Actions--extends fingers at DIP, PIP, and MP joints and extends wrist.
Extensor Digiti Minimi
Origin is lateral epicondyle of humerus.
Insertion is proximal phalanx of 5th finger.
Action--extends 5th finger.
Extensor Indicis
Origin is posterior ulnar shaft.
Insertion is distal phalanx of index finger.
Action--extends index finger.
Extensor Policis Longus and Brevis
Origins are posterior ulnar shaft, posterior radial shaft middle region, and interosseous membrane for longus. Posterior radial shaft distal region for brevis.
Insertions are distal phalanx of thumb (longus) and proximal phalanx of thumb (brevis).
Action--extends thumb.
Flexor Pollicis Longus and Brevis
Origins are anterior radial shaft middle, anterior ulnar shaft middle, and interosseous membrane for longus.
Trapezium and transverse carpal ligament for brevis.
Insertions are distal phalanx of thumb for longus and proximal phalanx of thumb for brevis.
Action--flexes thumb.
Opponens Pollicis
Origins are trapezium and transverse carpal ligament.
Insertion is proximal phalanx of thumb.
Actions--adducts thumb and flexes thumb.
Abductor Pollicis Longus and Brevis
Origins are posterior ulnar shaft middle and posterior radial shaft middle for longus.
Trapezium, scaphoid, and transverse carpal ligament for brevis.
Insertions are base of metacarpal 1 for longus and proximal phalanx of thumb for brevis.
Action--abducts thumb.
Flexor Digiti Minimi Brevis
Origin is transverse carpal ligament.
Insertion is proximal phalanx of 5th finger.
Action--flexion of 5th finger.
Abductor Digiti Minimi
Origin is transverse carpal ligament.
Insertion is proximal phalanx of 5th finger.
Action--abduction of 5th finger.
Opponens Digiti Minimi
Origin is transverse carpal ligament.
Insertion is metacarpal 5.
Action--adducts 5th finger.
