Folding Massage Chair

If you plan to have a chair massage business, you will need to purchase a folding massage chair. Most chair massage is performed out of the office so portability of the chair is key. The lighter the better as you will have to carry it all over the place.

They start at around $300. I got mine from Sam's Club. It came with a rolling case. The zip up case has wheels so you can roll it instead of carrying it. If you want to carry it, there is a big over the shoulder strap and handles as well. It is a bit bulky but if you have a portable chair business, you get used to it.

Look in some of the massage therapy magazines at the ads. There are many brands of chairs to choose from and they come in a variety of prices and colors. Look for a lightweight yet sturdy chair that will hold a heavier client. Make sure it is light enough to transport easily from job to job.

Care for your folding massage chair in the same way you care for your massage table. Always use your case when transporting it so the vinyl does not get ripped. Use medical-strength cleansing wipes on the vinyl in between clients to cut down on the spreading of germs.

Wash the vinyl with mild dish detergent and warm water. Always use a face guard or a paper towel split up the middle as a face guard. Never allow a client to put his/her face in the face cradle without a face guard. This is unsanitary and will feel very uncomfortable for your client after a few moments. The skin will start to stick to they vinyl, not to mention facial grease and makeup will get on the vinyl and ruin it.

You will need to adjust your chair for each client. Unlike the massage table, which gets adjusted to the height of the massage therapist, the chair must be made shorter or taller to accomodate each client.

The face cradle can be moved up and down. The hand rest can be moved up and down depending on the length of the client's arms. The actual position of the seat can be moved down for a taller person or up high for a shorter person. Usually a folding massage chair has three positions for each movable part.

When you first buy your chair, practice taking it out of its case and putting it back in until you can do it quickly.

Next, practice unfolding it and folding it back up until you are comfortable with it.

Finally, practice adjusting the movable parts up and down until you can do it with ease. This way, when you have clients, you will be comfortable with your chair. You will be able to transition from one client to the next with ease.
