Colorado Regulates Massage Therapy

by Carolyn
(Pueblo, CO)

The big news story that you have not hit on yet is that Colorado regulates massage therapy effective July 1, 2008. They are the 39th state to do so and today is July 5. I guess with the holidays you have been busy.

Now you have to complete 500 class hours from an approved massage school. You also have to pass either the National Certification test, a state test yet to be determined, or the Massage and Bodywork Licensing Exam, which I have never heard of.

The law says that a person can use the terms "massage therapist," "massage practitioner," "registered massage therapist," "RMT," "MT," "masseuse" only if he/she is registered by the state of Colorado as a massage therapist.
