California Massage Therapy News

California massage therapy news is that the state may start regulating massage therapy instead of the cities. It seems there are a lot of prostitution houses under the guise of massage therapy businesses. Massage therapy in California is run by the local towns, cities, and counties and not the state.
On July 10, 2008 Senate Bill 731 will be introduced in a hearing by the Assembly Business and Professions. If they approve it, it will go to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenneger.
The bill basically says that massage therapists in California can voluntarily join a statewide nonprofit massage therapy organization starting on July 1, 2008 and if they do, they will be fingerprinted and background checked.
If the massage therapist has had 500 or more clock hours of massage classes, he/she will be considered massage therapists.
The massage therapists with between 250 and 500 clock hours will become massage practitioners.
The massage therapists who do not volunteer to join the massage therapy organization will be subject to existing city and county ordinances.
I feel they should just go ahead and have a state regulatory board and do away with all city and county massage ordinances. It is just too hard to keep up with all of the different requirements of massage therapy in California.
